CAs are highly trained business professionals. Along with a required university degree, all CAs have undergone a demanding and diverse professional training program. This training combines both study and a 30-month on-the-job experience requirement which culminates in a national evaluation, ensuring that all those who pass live up to high standards recognized around the globe. After the CA designation is earned, a comprehensive professional development program helps CAs stay on top of innovations and developments in the ever-changing business world. CAs are trusted and respected business professionals, abiding by a self-imposed, rigorous code of ethical conduct.

Are All Accountants Chartered Accountants?
There are three types of recognized professional accountants in Manitoba. They are accountants with a designation who belong to a self-regulating professional body - chartered accountants (CAs), certified management accountants (CMAs), and certified general accountants (CGAs). The three professional accounting bodies are separate and distinct. Each body has different education requirements and operates under its own bylaws and rules of professional conduct.
Chartered Accountants Distinguishing Features
- CA students are the only professional accounting students required to complete a 30 month on-the-job experience requirement in an approved training office primarily in public practice, under the direct supervision of a member of their profession. This results in the most in-depth experience and exposure to a variety of businesses, organizations and business structures.
- Only CA students are required to successfully write a comprehensive three day evaluation (the UFE) and complete their period of experience prior to receiving their designation.
- CAs are the only professional accountants who are authorized everywhere in Canada to practice all aspects of public accounting, including performing audits of public companies.

CAs set the accounting and auditing standards for Canada through the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). |
